The media hounds are breathlessly awaiting an official endorsement from The Donald.

First indications were that the (for some strange reason) coveted endorsement would go to former Speaker Newt Gingrich. Now, it seems that Mitt Romney may be the recipient of The Donald's political blessing.

Only the King of Atlantic City knows.

Either way, we'll bring you the announcement when it happens.

That is quite a fall:
Donald Trump has had one of the quickest rises and falls in the history of Presidential politics. Last month we found him leading the Republican field with 26%. In the space of just four weeks he's dropped all the way down to 8%, putting him in a tie for fifth place with Ron Paul.

Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney are at the top of the GOP race with 19% and 18% respectively. Newt Gingrich and Sarah Palin are further back at 13% and 12%, followed by Trump and Paul at 8%, Michele Bachmann at 7%, and Tim Pawlenty at 5%.

As Trump got more and more exposure over the last month Republicans didn't just decide they weren't interested in having him as their nominee- they also decided they flat don't like him. Only 34% of GOP voters now have a favorable opinion of Trump to 53% who view him in a negative light.

Trump really made hay out of the 'birther' issue and as the resonance of that has declined, so has his standing. In February we found that 51% of Republican primary voters thought Barack Obama was not born in the United States. Now with the release of his birth certificate only 34% of GOP partisans fall into that camp, and Trump's only in fifth place with that now smaller group of the electorate at 9%.
------
Metaphor of the week:
During a lengthy conversation in his 61st-floor suite at the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, amid the Trump-branded room service menus and bottles of Trump Ice water, Mr. Trump provided ample fodder for supporters and skeptics — waxing about foreign policy and his TV ratings, displaying a detailed understanding of the political landscape and a curious insensitivity toward potential voters.

At one point, he compared his opposition to the legalization of same-sex marriage to his reluctance to use a new kind of putter.

“It’s like in golf,” he said. “A lot of people — I don’t want this to sound trivial — but a lot of people are switching to these really long putters, very unattractive,” said Mr. Trump, a Republican. “It’s weird. You see these great players with these really long putters, because they can’t sink three-footers anymore. And, I hate it. I am a traditionalist. I have so many fabulous friends who happen to be gay, but I am a traditionalist.”

He said that, should he run, he would offer himself as a “conservative with a big heart.”
Really Donald? 'These really long putters'?
Only Obama is in a position to put to rest this long overdue and controversial issue. If there is nothing to hide, come clean.

There are many important and pressing issues that, should I elect to run, I will address — including China, the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, the price of fuel, unfair trade, unsustainable debt, the creation of jobs and the rising price of food.

Most Americans would prefer to have a serious conversation about these critical issues, followed by a competent and fearless leader who can advance them. Sadly, the press has en masse chosen to glom onto but one of the myriad issues I have discussed and would tackle as president.

Allow me to repeat here what I have said on numerous occasions: I have spoken my piece on this issue, and many people have the same doubts as I have. My concern lies with people like the single mom who recently wrote to me that she now works a third job to pay for the gas to get to the other two.
... but then Trump does an interview with Meghan McCain:
Meghan: If you run for president, will you hire me for your campaign?

Meghan: As much as I like things about Mitt Romney—

Donald: No, he’s going to lose. He doesn’t resonate, you know? Or he would have won last time, in all fairness to your father! He was scheduled to win last time, and he didn’t because your father outdid him. You understand. I watched [Romney] make a speech, and it was all these little trivial statements. I’ll give you an example though of what you were saying before when you were talking about fighting Obama. This guy has more protection than any human being. When I mention why doesn’t he show his birth certificate, the press kills me! It’s unbelievable! But I keep mentioning it.

Meghan: Why do you think this birther thing still has such legs?

Donald: Because I think there’s something to it. For weeks, I said to people, “No, he was probably born here, but I’ll check into it.” You know a certificate of live birth is not a birth certificate and all that. I’m more and more convinced he may not have been born here.
...and please do note who brings up the birther issue.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5652495923256858462.post-16197192501246712462011-04-21T14:11:00.001-04:002011-04-21T14:11:00.463-04:00"I'll Be Revealing Some Interesting Things..."

The Donald wants to know why people keep asking him about the birth certificate issue and not OPEC or jobs.

Really Donald?

If you don't want people at CNN (or Fox, MSNBC and elsewhere) to ask you about the birther issue, maybe you should just admit that you've hopped on that bandwagon simply to be edgy.

If you came out of the proverbial gate talking about fiscal policy and job creation, media outlets might want to interview you. But, by talking about a fringe issue that makes Orly Taitz warm, you are participating in a freak show that will get you nothing but freakshow supporters (I'm looking at you Joseph Farah).
He is expected to give some type of speech, do a walking tour to meet with voters as well as sit down with donors, organizers and grass roots supporters in the state during his one day visit, Michael Cohen, executive vice president of the Trump Organization told CNN. Cohen is the organizer of a website pushing his boss to run, ShouldTrumpRun.com.

"He is excited. It is the start of the process," Cohen said adding Trump is "looking forward to meeting the people."

Trump is expected to announce during the season finale of his reality show "Celebrity Apprentice" on May 22nd a date for when he will make his decision known about whether he will mount a campaign for the GOP nomination. He has said he can't make any announcement of his intentions until that show's season is done.
The real estate mogul again insisted during an interview on CNN's American Morning Thursday he is seriously considering a run as he insists this is not just a publicity stunt.
He's going to "sit down with donors"? REALLY?!
Our objective [should be] to make reforms for the moment and, longer term, to find an equivalent of the single-payer plan that is affordable, well-administered, and provides freedom of choice.
Wow. The 'equivalent of the single-payer' healthcare? No wonder folks are freaking out.

This is one of several reasons that the Club For Growth has labeled Trump as a liberal:
The Club for Growth assailed potential presidential candidate Donald Trump today as a tax-hiking liberal whose open flirtation with single-payer health care and warm embrace of protectionism disqualifies him from consideration by conservatives.

"Donald Trump for President? You've got to be joking," said Club for Growth President Chris Chocola. "Donald Trump has advocated for massive tax increases that display a stunning lack of knowledge of how to create jobs. His love for a socialist-style universal health care system and his alarming obsession with protectionist policies are automatic disqualifiers among free-market conservatives. This publicity stunt will sputter and disappear just as quickly as the 'The Apprentice' is losing viewers."
Dang.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5652495923256858462.post-11719909536855286382011-04-20T20:11:00.002-04:002011-04-20T20:12:48.713-04:00"Of All Of The Republicans, I'm The Strongest On Defense"
It's a long and wide-ranging interview -- but at least they don't dwell on the birther issue.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5652495923256858462.post-25293145472063041872011-04-20T14:00:00.000-04:002011-04-20T14:00:06.836-04:00"People Love The Birther Issue"

Really Donald? DO THEY?

Yeah, I don't think so. Maybe once you add the qualifier "especially in the Republican Party" -- but I am highly skeptical of the truth in even that.

People want to be talking about real issues like the deficit, the multiple military campaigns that are being waged around the globe, health care, et al.

Nobody who is serious about politics is bringing up the birth certificate issue -- except you.
On whether Obama was born in the United States: "I grew up with Wall Street geniuses. What they do in terms of fraud, and how they change documents -- and I'll tell you something, if you notice, those dates were three days later. And here's what I ask people -- who puts announcements? Two poor people, a man and a woman with no money, they have a baby. There's announcements in the newspaper? Nelson Rockefeller doesn't put announcements in. I've never seen one."The guy will soon become politically repugnant. Other serious Republicans should begin their distancing NOW.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5652495923256858462.post-27453803498608270812011-04-20T13:38:00.002-04:002011-04-20T13:39:43.402-04:00In The Beginning...
